New Delhi To celebrate 50 years of collaboration between Auroville and UNESCO, and to highlight the dimension that Auroville brings to UNESCO’s activities a panel discussion on the theme of “Learning to Live Together: Translating SDG4.7 into Practice” took place at UNESCO Auditorium.
Auroville, a community of people beyond national borders and creed, with more than 50 different nationalities united by their common aspiration for human unity and diversified ways of living that are in harmony with nature and spiritual values, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee with a series of colourful events in the National Capital.
“UNESCO has been working very closely with Auroville, we have encouraged every development of Auroville from last fifty years. We share a common goal which is inclusive and quality education for all. In the coming years Auroville will be the place with unending education as well as a bridge between the past and the future.” said Shigeru Aoyagi, Director& UNESCO Representative in the welcoming remark.
“Auroville has done a lot of useful work in education sector, there are very good text books for teachers and students and this is the good time for us to introduce our ideas to the Government of India and learn to live together despite the diversity.” Said Mr Karan Singh, MP Rajya Sabha and Chairman of Auroville Foundation.
Since 1966, UNESCO has passed four resolutions in support of Auroville, with a fifth resolution passed recently at the 39th General Conference of the world body.
Through the learning of Auroville’s five decades journey of experiments for integral and unending education, the Panel Discussion, triggered a reflection on concrete ways to achieve this critical goal of the new UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning. A short film marking 70 years of UNESCO in India was also screened at the event.
